ARRANGEMENTS FOR APPEALS IN RELATION TO ENTRY TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2024

In relation to the appeal arrangements for entry to Year 7 at Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School in September 2024 will be the same or similar to those adopted in 2022 and 2023 in that the closing date for receipt of appeals will be Monday 15th April 2024 (that is the day at the beginning of the Summer Term 2024 and twenty school days specified in the School Admission Appeals Code: February 2021 from the notification that an application has been unsuccessful on 1 March 2024.

If you are considering making an appeal, it is very important that you inform the School using the e-mail address [email protected] or by telephoning (01708 222660) and asking to speak to Mrs Lefèvre so that a fuller statement as to why the Governing Body was unable to offer your daughter a place at the School can be sent to you before you submit your appeal (this document is likely to be crucial to the preparation of your appeal).
Following permanent changes to the relevant legislation, face-to-face hearings will no longer take place. Consequently, the Panel will consider each appeal on the paperwork submitted both by the appellant and by the school representatives (or, if the appellant so wishes, via a Zoom meeting). It is important that you indicate on the appeal form if you would like to meet with the Panel via Zoom, otherwise it will be assumed that you wish to have your appeal heard solely on the basis of the paperwork submitted.
You should be advised that the general information document for appellants 2023, available by clicking on the link below, has been re-written to reflect the change in previous procedures as outlined in the paragraph above.
OUTCOME OF THE CONSULTATION ON PROPOSED ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS FOR ENTRY TO THE SCHOOL IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024-2025
From 19th December to 31st January 2023, the Governing Body consulted with admission authorities in the School’s relevant area, as well as with any other relevant stakeholders regarding its proposed admission arrangements for entry to the School in the Academic Year 2024-2025.
As no representations were made to the School during the consultation, the draft proposals were adopted at the Governing Body Meeting held on 2nd February 2023.

The Havering School Admissions Team manages the In-Year application process for Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School alongside all of the other schools in the Borough. You must, therefore, apply following the In-Year process set out in the following link:
Alongside this application, you must complete the school’s own Supplementary Information Form (SIF) for the relevant admission year which can be found elsewhere on this page. The return of this form and the other information to accompany it (if available) will enable the Governing Body to properly consider and classify your application.
GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR APPEALS (IN YEAR)
As stated in the published admission arrangements for entry to the School, any applicant refused a place has a legal right of appeal against the Governing Body’s decision not to allow admission.
Any applicant wishing to exercise their legal right of appeal should contact the School as soon as possible for an appeal form and further information (currently in the section at the top of the page)
The Governing Body will issue a detailed and individualised statement regarding their admission decision to all appellants.
