Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is the world’s leading achievement award for young people, and is highly regarded by Universities, Colleges and Employers. It encourages young people to develop independence, commitment, leadership and teamwork through being involved in a personalised programme of activities. The school fully supports the award and recognises its unique value for developing skills and attributes in young people. Both employers and educational establishments are aware of the outcomes to be gained from participating within the DofE award and thus holders become highly valued.
The award was started at Sacred Heart of Mary Girl’s school in 2009. Students enrol for Bronze Level from the age of 14 and are invited to join the scheme in Year 10. At present we have pupils on the scheme from Years 10 to 11 working at Bronze and Silver Level and pupils working towards their Gold award in Year 12/13.

You may not know whether it’s for you. Well, it’s for everyone who likes a challenge. The Duke of Edinburgh mission is simple – ‘to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development, and recognise their achievements’.
The DofE takes you through a programme of activities that will leave you a more confident, motivated and capable person. The Awards programmes help young people aged 14 to 25 to develop their confidence, self-reliance, increase their commitment to achieving set goals and aid their transition into becoming responsible adults. Participants will see new/existing talents and skills develop and emotional maturity blossom whilst also building their fitness and initiative.
